Season 1 of Voltron: Legendary Defender is the first season of DreamWorks Animation and Netflix's Voltron reboot. All episodes of the season were released on Netflix on June 10, 2016.

Season one was originally released on June 10, 2016 as a Netflix-exclusive series after being announced at Wonder Con 2016.[1][2] It was globally released in Australia, Austria, Benelux Union, Latin America, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States.[3][4] The series aired on Netflix Korea on October 10th, 2016.[5]

Digital Download[]

The season released for digital download along with Season Two beginning August 15, 2017, and included an interview with WEP staff Ted and Bop Koplar, as well as interviews with Legendary Defender cast.[6][7]

The first episode, The Rise of Voltron, was split into three separate episodes for the release:

  • A New Alliance
  • From Days of Long Ago
  • Defenders of the Universe

DVD[]

It is slated to release in DVD format on June 12, 2018 in the same box set as Season Two with no other additional content.[8] The DVD release totals 26 episodes, yet again splitting The Rise of Voltron into three separate episodes.

5 Tears of the Balmera "Tears of the Balmera" June 10, 2016
Hunk and Coran try to retrieve a new crystal from the Balmera while the rest of the team work to prevent Sendak from leaving the castle with Voltron.
6 Taking Flight "Taking Flight" June 10, 2016
On the way to the Balmera, the team stops to help two rebels on the run from the Galra. Lance in trusting, but Hunk is skeptical of their intentions.

Alura, Coran and the Paladins return to the Balmera to free the natives, but the arrival of a Galra ship could force Voltron into action.

The team stops at an isolated and seemingly insignificant Galra space station and discovers how the empire is gathering its energy from the universe.

Zarkon lures Voltron into battle on his ship, and when one of the lions is capture the team must get creative to defeat the Galra and return home.

Trivia[]

  • Production of season one and Season Two were essentially finished prior to season one airing, so staff consider them as a single giant season split in two.[9]
