The Belly of the Weblum is the ninth episode of the second season of Voltron: Legendary Defender. It was released on Netflix along with the rest of the season on January 20, 2017.

Synopsis

The Paladins split up to gather resources for a showdown with Zarkon. Hunk and Keith travel into the belly of a planet-devouring creature.

Plot Summary

The Paladins split up to gather resources for a showdown with Zarkon. Hunk and Keith are sent in the Yellow Lion to find a planet-devouring creature known as a Weblum, which are the source for scaultrite, a material essential in building wormhole generators. Along the way the two discover that the instructional video Coran gave them has become corroded over the past 10,000 years and its instructions on how to harvest scaultrite are all but indecipherable .

The duo successfully locate and enter a Weblum, but are separated after reaching the creature's first stomach, leaving Keith to travel through the second while Hunk is swept away into the Weblum's bloodstream. In the second stomach, Keith finds a trapped ship and frees its silent Galra pilot, who then accompanies him to the third stomach. There they reunite with Hunk only to be cornered by the Weblum's internal defense swarms. Hunk realizes the only way to make the Weblum secrete scaultrite is for it to fire its venomous laser; while Keith and the Galran create a distraction, Hunk makes his way outside and attacks with his lion.

After the Weblum fires its beam, Keith packs up the crystallized scaultrite and turns only to find the Galra pilot pointing a gun at him. After a tense moment, the pilot lowers her weapon and leaves after grabbing a single full bag. Keith thanks Hunk for his efforts, and Hunk gently pokes at Keith's newly learned Galra ancestry.
