Oriande is a mystical realm that was the birthplace of Altean alchemy, and was long believed to be only a folktale. Prince Lotor had come across many clues scattered throughout the universe that led him to believe it was in fact a real place. During a search of Haggar's quarters, he and Allura came across a 'Compass Stone' that when activated projected a map to Oriande's location, somewhere within the Patrulian Zone.
At the center of the zone is a white hole, surrounded by a massive graveyard of ships disabled by the intense radiation. Should anyone approach the white hole itself, they will be attacked by Oriande's guardian spirit, the White Lion.
Only those with Altean blood are able to enter, and those deemed worthy will show 'The Mark of the Chosen', which manifests as glowing Altean marks on the cheeks.
